Facebook ads/sponsored post is one of the ways through which Facebook also get paid by advertisers by displaying these ads to the users using the platform. The sponsored ads are posts that are randomly circulating through each user’s timeline or wall with an inscription on top (sponsored). Have you ever seen a random ad appear in your timeline and wondered why Facebook is showing it to you? Perhaps it has something to do with your Ad Preferences settings.
Facebook selects the type of ads to show on your wall based on your profile info, your liked pages, ads you click on and the websites and apps you engaged with on the platform. Facebook uses some of your activities on the social platform to understand your likes and dislikes which they will use to serve you with content that they think will benefit you. But sometimes the ads that always show on your timeline might not necessary serve your interest.The good thing is that you can change these settings to suit your preference. It’s interesting to understand more about what topics Facebook believes you’re interested in and within your Facebook settings you can view and even edit these preferences. If you are interested in changing the type of ads that you want to see on your profile/Facebook wall, then the below steps will take you through.
- Login to your Facebook profile and then click on Settings in the top right corner of Facebook menu
- Now select Ads from the list of the menu that appears and then click on “your interest”. That is the first option. You’ll then see the below screen, click on it to Visit ‘Ad Preferences’ to view and edit your preferences:
- Now, you’ll be taken to the page where you can view and edit all of your ad preferences.
Now go through the list and choose the ad preference you want. If you’d like to remove any preferences from the list, and not to receive ads targeted to that topic, you can do so by hovering over that preference and then click on the ‘x’ button just by the preference.
Folks that’s it you now rest assure that you will not receive any ad that will be related to the ones you have removed from your preference.
